フットナンバーが730201なので1973年製と思われる。
ABU1750は1964年に登場し1966年からABU1750Aと型番が変わる。
刻印がSVANGSTAからABUに変更され形式名が変わった以外はそのまま。
最終モデルはAmbassadeur1750Aとなり1975年のカタログに初掲載でこれも名称以外は変化なし。
ダイレクトリールには違いないのですが、ハンドルシャフトのボタンを押すとハンドルとギア・スプールが切り離されるのでキャスト時にハンドルが回転しない。現在のベイトリールがスプールフリーとすると、ハンドルフリーといったところか。

You are now the proud owner of a 5500CIC custom assembled by Don Iovino, useing genuine Ambassadeur Reel parts.
These reels are presision assembled to aircraft standards, built one at a time. The gears are hand lapped after assembly for a smoother feel. In addition, I replaced the old 4-star wheel with a special 5-star chrome wheel for quicker response and easier adjustment. I also add aspecial felt oil retainer in a new chrome friction adjustment cap to retain constant lube on the main shaft of the spool. The end of the shaft is hand polished for better free spooling. Each of the gears in the reel have special mil-spec aircraft-high temperature grease, along with each reel being shimmed for better center line and free spooling performance. The drug system is custom shimmed for immediate on-and-off response.
This reel has the new chrome dual handle and very rare. In addition, the old drag has been replaced with a new Smoooooth Drag silicone washer, manufactured in Burbank, California, U.S.A.
Here are some facts about the new washer:
Smoooooth Drag is a fibrous material that absorbs heat and disperses it very readily. The material is also silicone coated and impregnated. What this dose for you is fold.
1. It virtually makes the washer waterproof.
2. It makes the washer oil resistant.
3. By penetrating into the Drag Washer material, the silicone on Drag Washers acts as a self-lubricating agent so that as the fish is running, you have the silicone lubricating your drag system. The silicone has a stable viscosity from 30 below zero to 200 degrees above, with minor fluctuations in viscosity at 200 to 280 degrees. After 300 degrees, the silicone has a tendency to wear off the drags but because of impregnation of the entire washer, the silicone comes back to the surface as it cools down.
4. The silicone on the washer also acts as a release agent to stop the old problem of the adherents of the metal washer to the fibrous washer. The adherent of the metal and fibrous washers will happen with Smoooooth Drag if the drags are left tightened for any lengthy period of time(two or three weeks or longer). The best way to prevent this is to loosen your star drag after every fishing trip.
I feel that my reels are a “CLASSIC” in every sense of the word.
